The article presents the 17th century French edition from the library of F.V. Karzhavin with his numerous marginals and notes. One of the texts included in this edition — «Livre de la Doctrine de Mahomet» — was translated by Karzhavin into Russian in 1769 and published under the title «Ахукамукхама Талым Набы, или Книга богословии Магометовой» (Moscow, 1783). For a long time bibliographers considered the source of this translation to be the work of the Byzantine historian Laonikos Chalkokondyles. However, its true original, found by the author of the article in the museum-estate «Arkhangelskoye» near Moscow, not only refutes it but adds the new details to the history of Karzhavin’s translation as well.
