FROM PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE

51-62 6
Abstract

The article deals with the aspects of interaction between university departments (publishing house, library) and readers. The data on the demand for printed and electronic editions among students, staff and faculty of the university, as well as comparative indicators on the issue of editions, their demand in the library and on the university portal are given. The survey revealed the following trends: increasing demand for electronic editions, decreasing circulation of educational books, decreasing demand for printed educational books in general, readiness of readers to switch to electronic publications even in the form of pdf-files (analogs of printed editions). It is emphasized that survey participants realize the importance of both printed and electronic books, and express the desire to use them in educational and scientific activities. The problem of the lack of a single coherent communication of the university community was revealed, and a variant of its solution was proposed on the example of the Ural Federal University.

Abstract

The article was prepared as part of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and is devoted to the history of wartime librarianship. It tells about the participation of the USSR Academy of Sciences Library (now the Russian Academy of Sciences Library) in the jubilee celebrations dedicated to the 220th anniversary of the Academy of Sciences (which was celebrated in June 1945). For the first time, based on archival documents, the article shows the conditions under which the preparatory work took place, and the names of the library staff who ensured the functioning of the exhibition housed in the USSR Academy of Sciences Library are mentioned.

75-94 4
Abstract

The article presents the publication of 12 letters from the outstanding bibliophile and bibliographer D.V. Ulyaninsky (1861—1918) addressed to the authors of bibliographic and library science works V.I. Saitov (1849—1938), A.V. Smirnov (1854—1918), E.A. Voltaire (1856—1941), V.P. They are kept in the Manuscript Department of the Institute of Russian Literature (Pushkin House) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the State Archive of the Vladimir Region, the St. Petersburg Branch of the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Department of Manuscripts of the Russian National Library. They discuss issues related to obtaining publications from bibliographers and library scientists, purchasing rare editions, bookdonating and book exchange, and clarifying bibliographic information. A letter to V.I. Saitov (1894), written during the early period of D.V. Ulyaninsky’s bibliophile activity, contains a description of his book interests and a description of a number of rarities that had entered his collection by that time. D.V. Ulyaninsky’s epistolary letters to the famous historian of Russian literature of the 18 century and bibliographer V.P. Semennikov include valuable additions to his bibliographic works devoted to the early period of provincial printing in Russia. In particular, Ulyaninsky can be considered the discoverer of the rarest provincial publication “Detailed Description of Printing Posts” by P.E. Filippov (Perm, 1796), which is still known today in the only surviving copy.

SURVEYS AND CRITICAL REVIEWS

95-104 6
Abstract

The article provides an overview of the contents of the collection of materials of the All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference “Preserving the Historical Memory of the Great Patriotic War: the Role of Libraries” (May 14—15, 2025, Russian State Library). The author focuses on articles devoted to bibliographic and publishing projects of Russian libraries for the period from 1942 to the present. First of all, the author named the bibliographic indexes and manuals created to explain the liberating nature of this war, expose the anti-human essence of fascism, foster patriotism and responsibility for the fate of the Fatherland. They contain information about socio-political, economic, fiction, official documents and memoirs of eyewitnesses and participants of military events. The second part of the review is devoted to modern publishing projects of a number of Russian libraries, which published previously inaccessible evidence of the military era. The analysis of the collection showed that the comprehension of the existing repertoire of books and professional manuals about the war, the preparation and release of new publications of a bibliographic, popular science and documentary nature are current areas of activity of modern libraries.

Abstract

The article deals with the activities of libraries of the CIS countries (Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan) to preserve the historical memory of the contribution of the USSR peoples to the victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941—1945). 129-151 10
Abstract

A previously unknown paper of the outstanding Soviet bibliologist A.A. Govorov (1925—2003) is published, which was written in 1977 and is devoted to the methodology of scientific study of the theory and practice of the book trade. A.A. Govorov proposed specific ways and methods for scientific study of the book trade, relying on dialectics and the principle of historicism. He emphasized that the book trade differs from the trade of other goods by the most important way — the final purpose (dissemination of information by means of books), and the bibliology (as a science) is the theoretical basis of practice of book distribution. Despite the social and economic changes of recent decades, the article is interesting not only for the historians, but also for the contemporary specialists of bibliology.
