Statistics of Russian Book Publishing in the First Half of 2024

Abstract

The authors present the main statistical indicators of domestic book publishing for the first half of 2024. The main text and the tables with comments give a clear picture of the number of book titles and brochures, their circulation, themes and the most popular authors in the fields of fiction for adults and children. Particular attention is paid to the problem of interrelations between the potential demand and real published editions in the sphere of the Russian science and education. The comparison of two main statistical figures of the first half of 2024 with the same period of 2023 indicates a slight increase: 101,17% for the total number of titles of books and pamphlets and 100,78% for their total print runs. But one must remember that for total print runs the year 2023 was the worst for all history of the post-Soviet Russia and for total number of titles — one of the worst for the last 20 years.
